Santa’s Sleigh — a little early

Saturday October 7 was World Card Making Day, and a bunch of us got together in Atlanta for the 5th annual WCMD gathering hosted by Brian King and Pam Morris. It’s always a fantastic day of learning, creating and fun. One of the highlights for me is the 3-D swap. Everyone who wants to participate makes one 3-Dimensional project and then we do a random swap for one of the other projects. The projects are all shapes and sizes, and include gift packaging, ornaments and home decor. Here’s my project for the swap this year:

swap for wcmd

The frame is a 6″ x 14″ shadow box. This gave me plenty of space to create a multi-layer scene.

Tips and Tricks

Glistening Snow: The snow capped hills are made from the Swirly Scribbles framelits. I used the Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets on the back of Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper. Once the Glimmer Paper was cut, I adhered it to Whisper White paper and trimmed along the top of edge of the Glimmer Paper to create the hill and dale effect.

Clean and Serene: To keep the scene from becoming too busy, I only stamped the top reindeer of each pair. It’s pretty obvious that there are four sets of two reindeer, and it’s a much cleaner view without all the extra lines on the second reindeer.

Adding Dimension: Stampin’ Dimensionals added all the lift that these reindeer needed. I stacked two dimensionals behind the first reindeer and again between the first and second reindeer, so the total depth is four dimensionals. The sleigh is stacked 3 high, so it sits between the reindeer. As far as the snow capped hills go, the first row are sitting flat against the background, and then two stacked dimensionals are used for each of the two subsequent line of hills. Dimensionals on some of the pine trees give it even more depth.

If you have any questions about the project, please ask in the Comments or contact me!
